Maize event MON87427 has been genetically modified to express CP4 EPSPS protein which confers tolerance to glyphosate herbicide. The food safety assessment performed by the National Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (BIOTEC) as advisory and technical arm of Thai FDA, and conducted assessment according to codex guideline. Based on the safety assessment from studies data provided by the applicant (as specified in Annex 2 attached to Notification of the Ministry of Public Health No.431) and existing scientific knowledge to date during conduct risk assessment, it is concluded that the maize event MON87427 is substantially equivalent to its conventional counterpart in terms of morphology, nutrition, toxicity and allergenicity.
